The Reference Group of the Eurovision Song Contest approved the sub-logo for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier today, the Group came together in Copenhagen, where the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest will be celebrated tomorrow.

The ancient Phaistos disc will play an important role in the visual identity of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. The mysterious disc, often used as a symbol for the ancient Greek history and a beloved imitation souvenir for tourists, will feature as sub-logo for next year's contest.

Designers are currently giving the sub-logo a finishing touch. After the Eurovision Song Contest got its heart-shaped generic identity in 2004, host broadcasters aimed for an additional sub-logo to give each event a unique and original touch. In 2004, TRT chose for a skyline of Istanbul, last year NTU designed the spiral-shape in a green environment. The generic logo meanwhile makes the contest easier to recognise.

The sub-logo of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest will be launched on 1st November during a special press conference in Athens.
