In our series of interviews for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 we have now arrived in Latvia and talk to the boys of PeR.
Congratulations on winning the ticket to Malmö.
Q1. Please tell us about PeR?
PeR (Please Explain the Rhythm) is a Latvian beatbox and vocals band formed by two singers and beatboxers from Latvia (Edmunds and Ralph). We are trying to show the world, that beatbox can be a part of every music genre.
Q2. You have been determined to perform at Eurovision. This isn’t the first time that you have entered your National Selection process. Did you feel that this was your year to succeed?
We hoped that this could be our year and it was. We did everything that we could to win Latvian final, so we are very happy and proud.
Q3. In the National Final you were wearing glittery outfits. From what I can tell you like to wear bright or unusual clothes on stage. Are you planning something even more unusual in Malmö?
There will be no changes or surprises, but to make sure, you will have to wait till Malmö!
Q4. What are your earliest memories of Eurovision?
I actually don’t have any memories, but I focus on this year’s Eurovision memories.
Q5. Ralfs, you are one of the composers of the song. What’s the inspiration for your Eurovision entry?
Edmunds is answering the questions! But Ralph would probably say, We think Eurovision a huge opportunity to show the world what kind of music is in your country and also to show ourselves as a band.
Q6. You are not only known in Latvia. Where have you been to and where is your music known?
We have been in Russia, Estonia and Lithuania with our live performances, but also our song Go get up from our debut album was in Denmark’s Chartbase Top. These are things that first pop in mind, but there’s probably more.
Q7. It looks like PeR is getting more and more attention. Have you any plans or dreams for the future?
One of our plans is to win Eurovision and play concerts around the world. The biggest dream probably is Grammy Awards.
Q8. I see that your debut album came out in February. It was even nominated as album of the year in the Latvian “Gada Balva”. Was that an exciting time for you?
Yes, because getting nominated for best album of the year with your first album is awesome. We also perform our song Rise there.
Q9. What are your thoughts about going to Malmö?
We are really excited and we just can’t wait to be there.
Q10. If you were given the chance to rule the world for one day, what would you do?
I would probably turn off the electricity just to see everybody’s reaction. 🙂
