With only nine million inhabitants, the final of Melodifestivalen 2004 was the most watched television programme in Sweden in 2004. This meant that 4,100,000 people saw Lena Phillipsson win the contest.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest attracted 3,500,000 television viewers, ranking it the 5th most watched show in Sweden.

In comparison to The Netherlands, only 2,950,000 people saw the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, ranking it in 45th place. However without sporting events, the contest would have ranked 7th. The semi final came 41st with 1,904,000 viewers. The final of the Nationaal Songfestival 2004 attracted 1,604,000 viewers, giving it the tittle of 69th most watched television programme in The Netherlands…
