Two days before the first Swedish semifinal, Magnus Carlsson, lead singer in Barbados, accuses Brandsta City Släckers of being clowns. When they win, Carlsson's anger sees no end.

In an interview published in the Swedish paper Expressen, Carlsson said that, “the firemen are bozos and are explicitly ridiculing the entire selection. They do not belong here”.
Glenn Borgkvist, lead singer in City Släckers, responded on the following day. “Magnus is scared that we are going to win because of our great song and performance”.

After the televoting it was clear that Brandsta City Släckers had won the first heat and Barbados had been rejected by the television audience.
When asked if he would like to enter the stage and have his photograph taken together with the firemen, Magnus Carlsson replied sulkily, “I cannot see what good that could lead to”, whereafter he demonstratively left the stage and went back to his hotel.

A few days later, Magnus Carlsson officially apologized to the firemen via Expressen, although it is believed that he only did so in order to save his and Barbados' image.
Glenn Borgkvist, also eager to end the entire affair, invited Magnus Carlsson to their fire station to smooth things out. Magnus Carlsson turned the invitation down.

Barbados had a slight chance of entering the grand final none the same.
A special jury is to select two more songs from the twenty-four songs rejected by the tv viewers, but at Mariann Records, they doubt that Barbados are going to be selected.
“We're most likely dead now”, they say at Mariann.
