Irish broadcaster RTE and ShinaWil Productions gathered last week to decide the future of the talent show Youre A Star. The format has been used to select the Irsih Eurovision Song Contest representative since 2003. However without success.

You're A Star has been used to select the last two Irish Eurovision Song Contest representatives Mickey Harte and Chris Doran. The format has delivered good ratings for RTE and revitalised the interest in the contest in Ireland. However, it did not create success at the Eurovision Song Contest. Time for RTE and ShinaWil Productions to reconsider.

In 2005 Youre A Star will again select the Irish Eurovision Song Contest entry, but the concept will be changed significantly. Larry Bass, producer of the show said: The intention is to give the format a credible lift compared to what has gone before. Therefore a team of choreographers, stylists and vocal coaches will be hired to work on the show. Even before going to the judging panel, all those planning to audition will be coached. The selected finalists will be coached intensively before and during the live finals.

You'r A Star 2005 will again be broadcast from the Helix in Dublin. The aim for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest is to present Ireland with a perfectly honed performer and performance. Full details of the selection process and format will be announced in August.
