F.Y.R. Macedonia: A concert for the late Tose Proeski

25th January 1981 is the birthday of the late Tose Proeski. To mark the 30th occasion of this date, the International Foundation for Tose Proeski arranged a very special concert to honor Tose's life and work on the anniversary of his birthday. The show was televised on Macedonian TV ( MKRTV) and featured a number of top performers from the Balkan area.

Tose representative the F.Y.R. Macedonia in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul and finished in 14th position with his entry Life. Tragically his life was cut short following a read accident in Croatia on 16th October 2007. The following day was pronounced a national day of mourning in his home country and later on his government bequeathed Tose Proeski the title "Honorable citizen of Macedonia'.

The concert was held in the crowded arena Boris Trajkovski on the 25th January and was hosted by Marianne Stanojkovski and Sasko Kotsev. One of the highlights of the show featured top Macedonian dancers accompanied by a full orchestra and choir of local youngster, performing a moving and artistic tribute as Tose's version of the Elton John's song Can you feel the love tonight was played. The dancers included Jana Andrejevik and Martina Srbinoska who were part of Gjoko 's backing group in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo last May.

The show featured performances from leading Macedonian and Balkan performers tand included Martin Vucic the singer that represented the F.Y.R.Macedonia in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with his entry Make my day. Other performers included Naum Petreski, Crvena Jabuka Zhera, Marko Vozelj, Elena Risteska and Antonija Shola. Most of these artists had collaborated with Tose during his musical career.

One of the most powerful features of this tribute was when the audience sang along to This You Light Up My Life from the album With Love by Tose. The show featured images of Tose fans from around the Balkans releasing white balloons into the sky as a tribute to honor Tose's 30 birthday.
