Germany: NDR confirms participation in Eurovision 2018

Day 4 of 10 Days of Confirmations has arrived and one more confirmation is here! NDR, the German national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Yes, Germany will participate at the forthcoming 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon next year. How exciting is this?

It is more than likely that Germany will opt for a national selection in order to select its Eurovision hopeful for Lisbon. NDR will reveal more details on its Eurovision 2018 mechanism in due course.

In 2017 the Germans opted for a national final and sent Levina to Kyiv with  Perfect Life.

Germany in Eurovision

Germany is one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest having debuted in the very first contest in 1956. The country has won the competition twice in 1982 with Nicole and in 2010 with Lena. Germany has participated in every single contest since 1956 with the exception of 1996 when the country didn’t qualify through from the internal audio semifinal round.

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concludes by mid September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
