Two former Eurovision Song Contest entrants for Finland, Geir Rönning and Karoliina Kallio, have recorded the official song for the UEFA European Women's Championship. The song is called Champions of the day and is a powerful rock ballad.

The duo will perform the song as part of the opening ceremony at Helsinki's Olympic Stadium this sunday before host nation Finland kicks off the tournament against Denmark. The song will also be performed in Finnish (as Pallo pyörimään) and in Swedish (Varje steg för varann). The competition takes place in Finland in the cities of Helsinki, Lahti, Tampere and Turku with a total of 25 matches between Sunday 23rd August and the final on 10th September.

Earlier this year, UEFA and the EBU foundthemselves in a date clash after the provisional date for the Eurovision Song Contest clashed with the date of the European Champions League final. The Eurovision Song Contest was moved back by a week to avoid contractual complications for broadcasters who are committed to showing both events live. The two shows are two of the most watched television shows in Europe.

Karoliina Kallio represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year as the lead vocal singer for Waldo's People. Geir Rönning represented the country at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with the song Why?
