High interest in Denmark with the upcoming Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as a record of 1115 entries were submitted for the competition, compared to 982 entries in 2016 and 687 in 2015.

It is expected that a total of ten entries will make it to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017, that will be held on 25 February in Herning.

“I am very happy and relieved that so many would like to participate. It means there is a big support from the country and now we will stand together in order to make Denmark go to the final in 2017. I heard a small part of the songs, and a big part of them have a modern and contemporary sound, compared to the classic Grand-Prix template”, says Jan Lagermand Lundme, DR’s Entertainment Manager.

Denmark has been in the Eurovision final for the last time in 2014, when they also hosted the contest. Since then, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was made of easy-going radio hits while the winner didn’t manage to stand out enough in order to qualify to the finals. The lucky finalists of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 will be probably revealed in mid-January.
