Tonight, Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsins 2009, the Icelandic national final for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest was held. The televoters decided to send Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir to Moscow with the song Is it true? written by Óskar Páll Sveinsson.

The top two in the national final were:

1. Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir – Is it true?
2. Ingó – Undir regnbogann

The esctoday.com poll voters agreed with the televoters as Is it true was the runaway poll winner with 40.7%. Runner-up Ingó had finished fourth in the poll with 7.2%.

In 2008, Iceland was represented by Euroband. The duo finishedeighth in the second semi final and 14th in the final with their entry This is my life. In 2009, the country will take part in the first semi final on 12th May.
