CT, the Czech broadcaster have chosen internally their representatives in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. They are Gipsy.cz, a four member Romani rap band fronted by rapper Radoslav “Gipsy” Banga.

As the Czech found the results of the past two year's participations in the Eurovision Song Contest rather disappointing, with Kabat ending last in the semi final in 2007 and Tereza Kerndlova one place ahead in 2008, they decided to select their next entrant internally.

Romano rappers Gipsy.cz are familiar to the followers of the contest as they tried to defend the Czech flag in the Eurovision Song Contest twice in the past, in 2007 with Muloland and 2008 with Benga beating. In both cases, they ended up in the top three but failed to win the Czech national final.

The Czech audience will get a choice of two songs to select the one which will represent their country in Moscow. It is yet quite unclear how the voting will be conducted, but it has been announce by the broadcaster that it will take place between 1st March and 14th March. A press conference where all the details will be revealed will take place on 16th February. The winning song will be officially presentedon 21st March during the CT Andel Music Awards. CT will broadcast only the first semi final, where they participate and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The band comprises award winning Radoslav "Gipsy" Banga, formerly a Syndrom Snopp member, violinist Vojta Lavicka, guitarist Peter Surmaj and kontrabasist Jan Surmaj. The band have been performing together since 2006, and their first CD, Romano Hip Hop entered MTV's World Chart Express. The band have extensive concert experience having performed in many European countries, such as the United Kingdom, France, Portugal as well as Korea. Their second album, Reprezent, was released last year.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
