Spain: TVE announces the semi finalists

TVE , the Spanish broadcaster, has announced the details of the country's preselection to choose their next candidate for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Three semi finals as well as a Second Chance Contest will lead to the Spanish Grand Final on 7th March.

TVE have come up with a new system again to select the next Spanish representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. In the first phase all submitted songs were posted on the TVE MySpace and the international public got to decide on the fifty most popular ones to qualify to the next phases. For the second phase, the 50 top voted acts have been split in two groups. The top twenty acts will go directly to the semi finals and the bottom 30 will go through another selection by a jury this time.

The following twenty songs qualify directly in the three semi finals:

Melody, Soraya, Santa Fe, La la Love You, Noelia Cano, El secreto de Álex, Normativa Vigente, Roel, Julia Bermejo, Vicente Casal, Virginia, Biquini, Yulia Valentayn, Jorge González, Calipop, Diqesi, Electronikboy, Mirela, Atalis and Oskee.

The following 30 artists will go through a series of televised auditions with a TVE appointed jury. Ten of them will join the top 20 artists in the three semi finals.

Rafa Saez, Solydo, Izan, Carlos Ferrer, Jaime Rojo, Gran Baobab, Salva ortega, Dulce, Vilas Mata, Isi, Beatriz, Omi Di, Ángeles Vela, David Caballero, La Red de San Luis, Leather Boys, Remembrances, No Life After Love, Bloodsuckers, Midnight, Rafael Sánchez, Iko de la Llilla, Fran Arenas, Mari Callas, Sin Tanto, Ron, Jammy & Shark, Patrix y los Raperos, Depresión Post-Parto and Adrián.

Out of the thirty acts competing in the three semi finals, three acts from each will proceed to the final. TVE wil be following the same voting system used in the Eurovision Song Contest, with a five-member jury and televote at a 50-50 split. The remaining 21 songs will go through a Second Chance Contest which will be held between the 3rd semi and the final and one of them will join the nine qualifiers from the semis by televote.
