Romania: Selecţia Naţională 2016 dates announced; song submission open

One of the countries that did not unveil its Eurovision 2016 plans yet was Romania. Today, the national broadcaster TVR has announced the plan and agenda for selecting their Eurovision entry. It will be done through the traditional Selecţia Naţională.

The song submission for the selection is now open and the deadline to submit entries is 7 February. Interested composers may send their entries on a CD to TVR: Calea Dorobanţilor nr. 191, sector 1, Bucureşti, Romania, and state “Pentru Selecţia Naţională Eurovision 2016” (For National Selection Eurovision 2016) on the envelope. Alternatively, songs can be submitted digitally by sending an email to [email protected]. No information regarding limitations regarding the nationality of submitted composers and/or artists was published.

Selecţia Naţională 2016 Agenda

  • 8-10 February: Live auditions phase will take place in front of a jury which will select the best 12 entries to compete in Selecţia Naţională 2016
  • 11 February: Announcement of the twelve participants via a press conference
  • 4 March: Semifinal – An expert jury will select four finalists, televoting will choose additional two
  • 6 March: Final – The winner out of the six finalists will be chosen by 100% televoting.

The executive producer of Selecţia Naţională 2016 is Iuliana Marciuc, who previously produced the Romanian selection last year. She will also be the Romanian Head of Delegation for Eurovision 2016. The director of the show is Dan Manoliu.

Romania is yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest having its best placing reached in 2005 and 2010, when Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem and Ovi & Paula Seling ended up third on the final scoreboard.
