Piosenka dla Europy will select once more the Polish 2009 representative to the Eurovision Song Contest as has been announced today by TVP. An open call for songs has been launched and a number of invited artists will join the ones internally selected from the submitted entries in the country's final in February.

The Polish national final will take place on 20 or 21 February at the TVP studios in Warsaw. Approximately seven songs selected by TVP from the entries submitted through the broadcaster's call for songs will proceed to the final and TVP retains the right to invite up to five acts to join them. The final lineup of Piosenka dla Europy (A song for Europe) will be announced on 23 January. The final winner will be decided by a mixture of televote and jury vote.

The deadline for the submission of the songs to TVP is 16 January and it is open to everyone regardless of citizenship. But the Polish broadcaster, in an effort to attract experienced singers, requires a minimum of one single or album released before the end of September 2008 by all aspiring entrants. Alternatively, participating artists must have competed in professional song contests or music festivals at a national level or have a working contract with a record label or a professional concert agency.

One song per act is allowed in the competition but the rule does not apply to authors or composers. TVP will accept demos from non experienced artists and in case they qualify to the final, the broadcaster could select a maximum of three and then assign them to acts of their choice which fulfill the above criteria.

The official videos of the qualified songs must be submitted by 9 February so that they are put on rotation on the Polish channels. There is the possibility of the release of a compilation CD with the finalist songs but this decision will be taken in due time.

The rules in Polish can be found here.

OGAE Poland have been assigned as official partner of TVP, to assist with the selection of the entries as well as the promotion of the winner on the way to Moscow. For any questions regarding required parts of a valid submission [email protected] will be happy to forward to TVP.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
