On 5th of October, a year to the day since Balkan megastar from FYR Macedonia, Toe Proeski held his last concert in the City Stadium in Skopje, a host of stars gathered to sing in his honour.

More than 30 acts performed for four hours at the concert named “We love you too, Toše”, which was organised by Toše’s manager Liljana Petrović and the singer’s own Foundation. The concert was broadcast live on television in ten countries.

Performers included Tony Cetinski, who represented Croatia at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest and who recorded a duet with Toše. Tony described his throat being “frozen by powerful emotions”, although he managed to sing in honour of his late friend.

Former Dora runner-up, Nina Badrić performed a moving song called Nesanica (Insomnia) and had the whole audience singing along with her. Tragically, Nina was the singer with whom Toše planned to collaborate last year, however his death on the way to Zagreb put paid to this.

Other performers were Leontina Vukmanović, lyricist of the 2004 Serbian and Montenegro Eurovision Song Contest entry Lane Moje, when Toše himself participated in the contest, and Ruslana, who won it for Ukraine. Marija Šestić, Bosnia and Hercegovina’s 2007 Eurovision entrant also sang, as well as Kaliopi, Simon Trpceski, Aki Rahimovski, Adrijan Gaxha, Sintezis, Bilja Krstić, Bojan Marović, Goca Trzan, eljko Samardzić, Miroslav Rus, Sandi and many more.

Although Toše’s parents were expected to attend, it seems that the approaching first anniversary of their son’s death made it all too much for them.

Toše Proeski was killed in a car crash on a Croatian motorway on 16th October 2007.
