'Herz aus Eis' ('Heart of Ice') is the title of the song which the female singer Senait will perform at the German preselection Countdown Grand Prix 2003. The lyrics were found through a contest, held by German newspaper taz.

Over 800 texts were sent in by readers of the German newspaper, including entries from France, Malta and other European countries. Out of these entries, 14 were picked by an internal jury for the final round of the competition, which was held this Friday in Berlin as a so-called “poetry-slam”. Two actors were reading all 14 sets of lyrics to the public and a jury, which then picked the winning text.

The jury was made up of the VJ Sarah Kuttner from German music channel Viva, radio DJ Pia Castro, screenwriter Klaus Chatten, music producer and participant of the German final 2001 Carsten Pape, taz chief editor Bascha Mika and member of parliament Claudia Roth from the Green party, who has a background in pop band management. The jury and the public both voted for 'Herz aus Eis' ('Heart of Ice').

The lyrics were written by Oliver Pinelli, a professional music producer who recently co-produced Enrique Iglesias and A-ha. Runners-up were 'L'amour après l'amour' by Kevin Kad from Rennes (France) and 'Maybe' by Gudrun Backhaus from Frankfurt.
