This year’s Italian representative at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Francesca Michielin, has revealed her intent to propose an English language version of her competing entry.

Since finishing as runner-up in the Campioni section of the Sanremo Music Festival and going on to be announced as the official Italian representative at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, Francesca Michielin has appeared on a number of radio shows around the country speaking of her initial plans for the contest.

Francesca competed at Sanremo 2016 with her entry Nessun grado di separazione which has been highly speculated as the upcoming Italian Eurovision entry, however an official announcement has yet to be made by either RAI or Francesca regarding the official Eurovision song.

Although the Italian entry is currently unknown, Francesca has revealed that she would love to sing in English at the upcoming contest and is currently in discussion with her team regarding what would be the best option for the contest.

Francesca and the Italian Eurovision team are currently looking at 3 options; the first option is to perform the entry entirely in Italian, the second option is to sing 100% in English and the third option is to produce a bilingual version of the Eurovision entry, including 50% Italian lyrics and 50% English lyrics. The latter 2 options are hoped to appeal to a wider international audience.

An announcement is expected to be released in due course regarding the selected Italian entry for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest along with further details in regards to language choice.

Earlier this month, Italy’s biggest annual music festival Sanremo took place at the Ariston Theatre where a total of 20 “big artists” competed in a bid to win the Campioni section of the festival.

With Stadio reigning victorious in the festival, the band was then offered the chance of representing their country at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest by the Italian national broadcaster, RAI. Following initial consideration, Stadio later decided to decline the Eurovision offer due to tour commitments and an announcement was made shortly afterwards revealed that Francesca Michielin would represent the nation at the upcoming contest.
