Romania: TVR confirms preliminary participation in Eurovision 2016

TVR, the Romanian national broadcaster has confirmed its premilinary participation at the forthcoming 2016 Song Contest in Stockholm next May.

TVR has applied to compete at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm and has not withdrawn its application. The Romanian broadcaster is yet to officially confirm its participation at the upcoming Eurovision edition.

TVR has confirmed to ESCToday it will do it utmost best to compete in the contest next year, meaning that is more than likely to see a Romanian entry in the contest next year. More information regarding Romania and its Eurovision 2016 participation will be released in due course.

Romania is the 41st country to confirm its intention to compete at the 2016 Eurovsiion Song Contest. So far 41 countries have confirmed their intention to participate at next year’s Eurovision party in Stockholm. The official list of  the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest participants will be released by the EBU shortly.

The deadline for countries to submit their respective applications in order to participate at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on Tuesday 15 September, herefater all applicant countries had a grace period until 10 October to decide if they were to stay in the competition or not without facing a financial penalty.

In 2015 Romania selected its Eurovision entry and act via a national selection. Voltaj won the 2015 Romanian Eurovision national final and were awarded the golden ticket to represent Romania at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with their entry De la capăt (All over again). The boyband achieved a 15th place in the grand final in Vienna.

Romania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Dan Bittman and is yet to win the event. Romania’s highest placing at the Eurovision Song Contest has been a 3rd placing in 2005 with Luminita Anghel’s Let me try and in 2010 with Ovi and Paula Seling‘s Playing with fire.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
