One semi and the final will be broadcast Down under

The Australian broadcaster SBS have confirmed that they will be airing one of the two Eurovision Song Contest semi finals as well as the final, on 24 and 25 May 2008.

Some three hundred thousand viewers tuned in on 12 May 2007 to watch the semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Australia. That number rose to over four hundred for the final two days later, 432.000 to be precise. SBS have confirmed that they will be airing one of this year's semi finals, on Saturday 24 May at 8.30pm and the final on Sunday 25 May at 7.30pm (local time in both cases). Which of the two semis will be aired is still unknown and it will depend on which one(s) the BBC decides to broadcast, as the Australian channel usually tags along with the British broadcaster and uses their commentary. In the case they broadcast both, Australian fans will be in for a marathon Eurovision night as they will be aired one after the other.

A very special thank you to Glen Dinsdale for the submission of the information.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
